Municipal Unit of Nafplio

Nafplio, also known as Anapli, is the capital of the prefecture of Argolida and is one of the most beautiful and popular cities in Greece. Apart from its administrative role, it is an important tourist centre, attracting visitors throughout the year. According to mythology, its name comes from Nafplio, son of the god Poseidon and Amymoni. The town is surrounded by many other picturesque areas, such as Aria and Lefkakia, which offer unique natural landscapes and stunning views. Lefkakia, located east of Nafplio, offers a unique natural environment with picturesque hills, stunning views and a plain with citrus trees. While Pyrgiotika, a small village near Nafplio, offers an amphitheatrical view of the city from every point, located at an altitude of about 120 meters.

Municipal Unit of Assini

Tolo, an area of about 2500 inhabitants, is known for its two impressive islands, Koronisi with the chapel of the Holy Apostles and Romvi, also known as the island of Aphrodite. In Drepano, a beautiful traditional village 9 km from Nafplio, the green tangerine fields meet the blue beach of Plaka. The traditional settlement was built at the back of the hill Mylos, offering stunning views of the sea. Assini, known as a “traditional village”, is located 8 km from Nafplio and stands out for its history and its traditional character. At the foot of a high mountain in the shape of an egg, the village ends at the top, where it is illuminated at night by the chapel of Prophetes Elias, offering a unique atmosphere. Iria, created by Cretan refugees, retains the spiritual wealth from the time of Kapodistrias. The seaside village of Candia, with its rich history and enchanting landscape, is another valuable aspect of the unit, combining tradition with the modern way of life.

Municipal Unit of Midea

Agia Triada, formerly known as Merbaka, is a village 10 km from Nafplio and 6 km from Argos. Established as the centre of the former Municipality of Midea, it is surrounded by orange groves. Anyfi, built in a critical position, is the entrance to the new Municipality of Nafplion. Arachnaio, between two high peaks, offers a stunning view. In Argoliko, the history is lost in the centuries, with few bibliographical references. Manesi, an Arvanite village, has, among other things, a past that reaches back to Italy. Dendra, a small settlement with a long history, combines agriculture with tranquility. Midea, at the northeastern end of the Argolic plain, produces vegetables, citrus fruits and olive oil. In Panariti, the historical and the ecological go hand in hand. Poulakida, a large village near Nafplio, offers an excellent view from Agia Paraskevi, and comes alive during Carnival with traditional customs.

Municipal Unit of New Tiryns

New Tiryns, just 5 km from Nafplio, belonged until recently to the Municipality of New Tiryns and was the seat of the Municipality. It now belongs to the Municipal Community of the Municipality of Nafplion. Originally known as “Kofini,” it was renamed New Tiryns in 1953. The inhabitants are mainly engaged in agriculture, focusing their activities on the cultivation of citrus fruits, apricots and vegetables. New Roino in Argolida also offers a unique experience, built on a hillside, with a view of Nafplio. Its inhabitants, mainly Arcadians, keep their roots from Roino in Arcadia and are closely connected with their past, visiting Old Roino during the feasts of Agios Georgios and Prophet Elias. The village of Katsigri, originating from the Turkish Katsigr Aga, who according to the testimonies, was the owner of the whole area, was renamed “Agios Adrianos” after the Ottoman rule, in honor of the homonymous church that still exists today.
