History
Nafplio, adorned with its historical wealth, emerges as the capital of Argolis, presenting one of the most important ports of eastern Peloponnese. In the year 2021, there are 14,532 residents recorded, while its development began with its concession to the Franks in 1212. However, the city finds its true flourishing during the era of Venetian rule starting from 1388. The Venetians, investing in infrastructure, fortifications, and the harbor, made Nafplio one of the main cultural and commercial hubs of the Peloponnese. The period of Venetian rule is characterized by the construction of the strong fortress of Palamidi and significant building activity. After the period of Ottoman occupation (1540-1686) and the reconquest by the Venetians, Nafplio plays a central role in the Greek Revolution, with a siege lasting from 1821 to 1823. With its liberation, it becomes the capital of the country until 1834, before the capital is moved to Athens.

The historic center of the city of Nafplio constitutes a living organism of unique cultural value. The intensity and variety of its cultural evidence is uniquely recorded and preserved over time in the architectural and artistic features of its monuments and buildings, as well as in its urban planning.
KOITIDA, a program that highlights the historic center of Nafplio, is a shining example of an effort to preserve and promote cultural heritage. Born from the collaboration of the Municipality of Nafplio and the Nafplio Municipal Enterprise for Cultural Development (D.E.P.A.N.) in 2004, the idea emerged from the desire to preserve the uniqueness of the old town.
The program provides a digital exploration experience of the historical wealth of Nafplio through an interactive digital map. Presenting extensive information and high-resolution photographic documentation, KOITIDA offers the public a deep understanding of the cultural and historical context of the area.
