The choice of Nafplion for the establishment of the Centre for Hellenic Studies at Harvard University was not accidental. The city’s location, deeply rooted in ancient Greek history and influenced by the modern spirit of Greece, created the ideal environment for the Centre’s promotion.
The unique beauty of the area and the excellent cooperation with the local authorities contributed to the success of the project. Thus, in 2003, the Municipality of Nafplion decided to proceed with the restoration of the neoclassical Great Physician’s House and lease it to Harvard, providing an amazing space for education, research and culture. Thus, Nafplio becomes a centre of knowledge and intellectual exchange, bringing together the past and the present in a rich dialogue.
Department of Performing and Digital Arts
The Department of Performing and Digital Arts in Nafplio was founded in 2019 with the aim of developing and promoting knowledge in the field of performing and digital arts. The educational programme focuses on performance and innovation in the arts, offering courses that combine artistic, theoretical, technological and methodological approaches. Students acquire the necessary skills for the creation, analysis and composition of artistic works, as well as knowledge in the use of technology in artistic applications. In addition, it provides specialised training for the teaching of artistic subjects in education.
Department of Theatre Studies
In addition, the Department of Theatre Studies is dedicated to the thorough study of theatre, while offering general infrastructure courses in the arts and humanities. Its aim is the complete education of students on a theoretical and artistic level. In this way, it unites scientific knowledge with practical application, offering a comprehensive educational experience in the bachelor and postgraduate studies it offers. The department’s programme has been externally peer-reviewed and certified as fully compliant with high international academic standards.
